The Temple
The Temple is the main religion of the world based around the five cardinal souls. While considered the "religion" it focuses more on enacting the will of the Souls that have an active impact on the world, rather than praying to them or leading the people.
Leadership:
The leadership within the Temple consists of five Heads, one for each Soul. These leaders direct their sections of the Temple and convene with their Souls. For more information see the subcategories for each soul.Roles:
The temple's main role within Moonwin is for big events within people's lives and providing guidance by the direction of the souls, this includes:
- Birth: During most births (because not everyone calls the temple, though they do not charge) the temple sends representatives to assign the child their Patron Soul, their middle name, and when available an oracle joins these representatives, sometimes offering prophecies. Prophecies from an oracle range in length from a word to an epic and are kept to the child and their family, whereas middle names and patron souls are often public knowledge.
- Weddings: During weddings the temple will often bless the couple, acting as representatives of the patron souls of both partners. In the case of matchmaking, some families will run matches through the temple for compatibility before pursuing a match. In cases where it is unclear who should take who's name the temple will offer guidance as well.
- Deaths/Burials: During the burial process of a lost one, the Temple hosts the rites of passage so that the death may make it to their final meeting place of the Cardinal Souls.
- Succession: In most countries, Moonwin included, the Temple is a non-partisan participant within the succession process for most noble families. This role may include simply enforcing the will of the head of the household if a family doesn't agree with their decision, or offering the advice of the Souls when requested. For families with more complicated methods of succession the Temple usually takes the role of arbitrator
Cardinal Souls:
According to the creation of the world there are five Cardinal Souls. The Four original cardinal souls who created the earth, and then the People's Soul, said to have been born from the need of the people as they became a major force upon the world. Location:
The Temple hosts locations in every town and major city south of the Great Barrier Mountains. There are also remote Temple locations dedicated to oracles, Lore, or prophecy fulfillment. The Temple Headquarters is located in the capital of Moonwin, as one of the oldest countries on the continent, though Temple governance was considering relocation during the length of the Vithier War.Current Heads:
