Whisper Will
In earlier times Whisper Will was a petty god of crossroads. Travellers would pay him tribute during their journeys and he would stir them in the right way at crossroads and intersections. He also performed minor tasks in helping dead or lost souls crossover to the death realms. Will was trickster and a rogue, making deals and gambling with travellers, and he wasn't really bound by the rules of planar Good and Evil.
This all changed after he, somewhat by accident, bound the Tiefling Malliken into his service as a warlock. The Tiefling found a way to tap into the undying powers of Will. Will soon learned about this and saw the warlock as an instrument to increase his power in the Material Plane. He made Malliken his champion, bestowing him with a powerful portion of his magics over controlling death. This weakened Will and he ordered Malliken to collect souls for him, which he could use to barter with the other gods of death and afterlife for power.
Malliken set about his task by claiming the souls of the evil cultists in service to the Eye of Elemental Evil, who threatened the Dessarin Foothills. These corrupted souls gave Will more power but as he gained more souls so did grew his malice, influenced by the dark taint left on the souls . Soon Will demanded more powerful souls from his champion, targeting the prophers leading the cults of Elemental Evil. Malliken obliged, perhaps unaware of the consequences of his actions but content with the rise in power it gave him.
The first time Malliken got a hint of his masters new disposition was when he had failed to claim souls for him for some time. Whisper Will appeared in his dreams and cut of his hand, replacing it with a skeletal claw. The claw proved to be a powerful implement of Will's new death magic but also clearly showed Will's new attitude towards his prime champion. Would Malliken not deliver he might very well lose his free will to the god altogether as a deathlock.
The most recent shift in power came when Malliken was cornered with his companions in the lair of Evil Fire by Vanifer, the prophet of fire, and a red dragon. Malliken pleaded for his master to come save his hide and that he had the souls of the priestess and the dragon to barter. This prospect was enough for Will to manifest in the Material Plane, kill the prophet and the dragon - with help of the adventurers - and claim the souls of all the fallen, including Mallikens friend and co-adventurer Ginny. These powerful souls gave Whisper Will a significant boost in power and he succesfully challenged some of the other dieties for the dominion over souls, ghosts and wraithes, adding it to his domain portfolio.
