Figure Fluidity

Nanlaríx are a species of shape-shifting carnivorous marine animals native to the planet of Gadalla. During one of the many interplanetary wars between the kíndalla of Gadalla and their elven neighbors, the elves discovered that consumption of nanlaríx flesh granted the consumer temporary access to the same shapeshifting powers as the kíndalla.

The afflicted individual is capable of shape-shifting for as long as it takes their body to digest the nanlaríx oil, fat, or flesh which has been consumed. Common transformations include an increase or decrease in height; the thickening or lengthening of appendages; the shrinking or growth of the pectoral or abdominal regions; or a change in hair color, texture, or style.

Individuals are highly susceptible to suggestions while afflicted. For example, while Alice of Wonderland could theoretically have transformed herself into any shape she wished when she consumed foodstuffs labeled “eat me” and “drink me,” those very labels prevented her from having a chance to think up a shape for herself until it was too late and she was blinded by panic.

Forced expulsion, either through the mouth or the rectum, can be used to treat the condition in the case of accidental ingestion. Other than that, a strong sense of willpower can keep the body in its original state until digestion is complete.

Knowledge of the power of cooking with nanlaríx fat was brought to Eden by both the kíndallans and elves. And though it is technically possible to cook nanlaríx-laced food anywhere in the world, the establishment of The Bonnie Bubbler during the First Age cemented their status as the preeminent purveyors of this fare.

Some kíndallans, overly protective of their natural ability to shapeshift, have sought to make illegal any and all foods capable of inducing figure fluidity. Thusfar, they have been unsuccessful.
