Chastity Catastrophe
The Chastity Catastrophe is a ritual conducted by the people of Frult Üft in the rare event of a long-lasting drought. When The Gush isn’t flooding with regularity and the Lof Jabla bushes have begun to wilt, Üfters gather at Oona’s Obelisk—the river’s source—for a festival of dancing, music, and unresolved titillation. The citizens put on their most provocative clothing and flirt like there’s no tomorrow, but refuse to close the deal—so to speak—until The Gush begins to gush once more.
History
At some point during the Wander Years between the First and Second Age, a group of halfling caretakers arrived at the city of F.U. to find the riverbed of The Gush dry as a bone. Stumped, the small party of halflings hiked to Oona’s Obelisk to see what might be happening. It was only once they were there that water once more began to trickle from the crack in the Obelisk.
For several days, the party attempted to ascertain what might be causing the dry spell. And yet, despite the fact that there amongst the best minds in Eden at the time, they could not come to any solid conclusions. The only thing they were able to notice was a correlation between the unresolved sexual tension between two of the party members and the steadiness of the Obelisk’s trickle. With no idea what else to do, the two folks who were crushing on one another were asked to step up their flirting—but not to act on their desires until further notice.
After two days of this, The Gush began to flow normally again. On the third day, the river flooded and all was seemingly back to normal.
Whether the two halflings ever ended up acting on their desires is a fact long since lost to history.
This is some good stuff :)
Thanks! Yeah, this one was fun—even more so because it all came flooding out (pun intended) after I was blocked for most of the afternoon.
