Vhorlith, the Awakened Dreamer
The Awakened Dreamer, known also as Vhorlith the Mindshaper, is a remnant of the Old World. This eldritch entity was once worshiped as a god by the early ancients. Little is known of the worship practices of Vhorlith. However, many accounts and legends describe the horrific power of this being. Described as a collosal leviathan, Vhorlith's obsidian skin was said to mirror the voi, absorbing all light and distorting in such a way that it's form was ever-changing, and reforming before the naked eye. In many ways resembling a kraken, it's massive tenticled limbs would stretch for miles, extending and retracting from its body. Each appendage was adorned with luminessent patterns that were said to pulse with the entity's thoughts and will, and could manipulat the very fabric of both dreams and reality.
The entity that was Vhorlith was also said to be adorned with a crown of eyes, reminiscent of the diadems of sovereignty, and which remained unblinking, gazing into thousands of dimensions of reality simultaneously. It was said that Vhorlith could see into the minds of the living, and extract the deepest fears and desires from the souls of mortals.
Vhorlith was worshiped as both an ever-present manipulator of reality, responsible for shifting the hearts of men towards eldritch goals, while also being marked as a Hearald of the End. The rising of Vhorlith from the depths of the sea, was often protrayed by leaders, proophets, and madmen as both the start of the world's destruction and it's purification. Vhorlith was said to be the entity that would cast aside reality itself, and usher in an era of dark enlightenment for the devout.
Throughout Vhorlith's tenure in legend and prophecy, a constant image of madness pervaded the narrative. Those who sought Vhorlith's favor were granted with an increasing awareness of other realms, times, and unearthly planes which drove those mortals mad. The devout woudl claim visions of alternate realities and timelines, vivid hallucinations, and access to unspeakable knowledge. However, it was always said to come with a cost of the mortal's memories, and would always lead to an incurable madness.
The influence of Vhorlith cannot be understated in ancient texts across the continent of Eilos. Numerous cults of unnerring faithful to the Awakened Dreamer were said to cover the lands of Eilos in ancient times. It is possible that this contirubted to the fall of the Ancients' civilization. The faithful believed that the prophetic and nightmarish visions granted by Vhorlith would lead humanity to a higher level of existance on a plane above mortal comprehension. Acolytes were often granted prophetic visions, cryptic revelations, and twisted prophecies that drove them towards goals that entwined fate and doom. It was also believed in the ancient days, that the thrashing of Vhorlith's tentacled limbs caused typhoons, tsunamis, and tempests that consumed the land in water, giving Vhorlith some measure of dominion over the surface world. Worship of Vhorlith was focused on the symbolism of the world's innevitable entropy, and an enlightenment that promised the dissolution of the self to the oceanic entity. It was said that Vhorlith's ultimate goal was merge the endless realities and planes of the universe into a single, ceaseless tapestry of dreams, unfathomable to mortal minds, for a purpose equally incomprehensible.
