Sharn Watch

The Sharn Watch is the police force for all of Sharn, from Lower Dura to Upper Central. They enforce everything from traffic violations to gang wars. Members of the Watch are also known as bluejackets due to the cobalt hue of the standard uniforms. (I know it doesn't match the cover image; sue me.) While it is possible for anyone to partake in the Watch's intense boot camp, its ranks are made mostly of humans and dwarves, with a few smatterings of goliaths. Most low-level criminals fear the Watch, but many of the higher-ranked criminals know exactly what crimes they can get away with, and where.   The Watch's relationship with the Boromar Clan is an open secret. The city of Sharn is no stranger to bribery, and this is especially true when it comes to turning a blind eye to the criminal syndicate's operations. There is a decent percentage of Sharnites who simply do not care about this underground relationship between the Watch and the Boromars, as the syndicate tends to target non-residents of the City of Towers. Yet, the fact remains that the Boromars are free to manipulate events as they so choose. In the lower wards of Sharn, the Watch is notably absent. The governments of these wards simply cannot afford to keep them well-paid, if at all.   Wherever a crime or wrongdoing is committed, the Sharn Watch follows with a consistency and speed proportionate to the wealth of the ward the crime was committed in, as well as the relevance of the crime to the Boromar Clan or others who have bribed the force. In the wealthy wards, or for crimes that genuinely threaten the safety of the city, the Watch often responds with an uncanny speed. (There are several theories for how they manage to accomplish this, with the most reasonable suggesting an arrangement with House Sivis, and the most outlandish claiming an army of enslaved sprites connected to a hive mind.) When the officers do arrive, it is almost certain to be unpleasant for the offending party. In addition to the standard issue crossbow and short sword, each officer also wields the infamous "Sleeper Wands". Also affectionately known as "tranquility sticks", these dragonshard-infused wands can put a rampaging goliath to sleep in just a few seconds.
