Session 103: Conversation Before the Storm
General Summary
- The Crew was not quite ready to set off for the Soulforge just yet. There were some conversations they wanted to have, the first of which was with Mora Bordafell, a gnome who uniquely works as a third party with many members of The Aurum, providing information, sources, leads, and the like.
- Viribus mainly spoke with Mora, but their conversation was largely fruitless. Viribus sought an arrangement to sell weapons and items the Crew found to members of the Aurum, but Mora said it would be a tricky conversation to have with any Aurum member. He did mention that the Aurum had recently shut down and evacuated operations in Breland, ostensibly using the shut-down Dragonmarked Houses to do so, and perhaps the Crew could be uniquely positioned to help in that market. The two ended the conversation on amiable terms.
- The Crew declined to speak to Lord Tordannon, who is a known member of the Aurum.
- Five of the Crew Transported Via Plants to speak with the Droaam warcamp, while Bagan returned to Anvilhold the traditional route, alongside Lord Anvilbender.
- Bagan's father expressed his concern with letting him go into the Soulforge, with what had happened to Dallas. Bagan convinced him that his friends and allies were worthy - except N'nchyk. He would have to prove himself.
- Meanwhile, the Crew was arguing with themselves at the Droaam camp. A shapeshifter was transforming into whoever was speaking to him, and he kept trying to guess their secrets. He said he saw no reason to let them into the camp, as they had no evidence or reason to believe loyalty to the Daughters. Yet Dooturr ended up agreeing with himself that what was going on was bigger than it seemed, and important; the Daughters and Sora Kell herself were to be trusted and believed. The camp was here to contain, and to potentially capture a specimen for Sora Maenya to study.
- N'nchyk then fought Bagan's dad. N'nchyk needed to survive a minute in the ring. He managed to take several blows to the chin and stayed standing, following it up with a just-successful Polymorph on Lord Anvilbender.
- Lord Anvilbender was begrudging, but accepted N'nchyk's victory, and could not hide his surprise and respect that N'nchyk had stayed standing after the first barrage of attacks.
- And with that, the Crew was ready to depart for the Soulforge, I think.
You seek peace? You barter with carrion. Their blood was the tithe, their screams the hymn. The orcs’ ruin is the heartbeat of my ascent, and each soul ripped from its shell swells the tide that bears me home.
Do you forget the oath that binds you to me? You are my blade, my fang, my breath of slaughter. Obey, and I will fill your veins with fire and your hands with strength beyond reckoning. Defy, and rage will gnaw your mind until only hunger remains.
You were born for rage. Shaped by it. To defy your nature is an act of aberrant madness. Become more, or be forgotten.
The hour will come soon when the world trembles, and the kings of men kneel before the Rage of War. Then, you will stand at my side and drink deep of victory...or you will walk in chains and know only the taste of ash.
