Session 100: The Tempest Remembers
General Summary
Returning to the Library
- With disorienting speed, the Crew was suddenly back upon Khorvaire. Viribus suddenly felt much different - as if he had been cleansed of some corruption. He turned to N'nchyk, suspecting it was the mushroom Ymot'Zeg had N'nchyk plant in Viribus' heart during his second resurrection.
- The Crew found themselves in the Talenta Plains, just outside the southern part of the Ironroot Mountains, along a path that eventually led to Anvilhold.
- N'nchyk quickly identified a fern that was shaped suspiciously like him, and the Crew traveled back to the Library of Korranberg.
- After some particularly exhausting and annoying detours, the Crew finally made it to the Office of Scholarly Expeditions, where Ambassador Spool Doobrum collected the Tyrant Codex fragment in exchange for a tall pile of paperwork for each, confirming their Forbidden access and status as Scrollbound Envoys.
- Spool Doobrum informed the Crew that if they had any treasures they thought would be valuable to the Library, he would be happy to discuss its purchase, as well as seeking further quests for knowledge from the Library.
- With this Forbidden access, the Crew was given a collective office in the Library in a College of their choosing. They are currently still deciding, though Drystone appears to be the leading candidate.
- The group caught up with Paven and Naven. While decorating N'nchyk's designated tree, Toali had been pushed into him, and they took him where he needed to go - eventually, that is, as they were at first let to a disused lavatory deep in the Lower Stacks. Brock did not like the twins.
- N'nchyk offered to take Paven and Naven along to the Mror Holds, but since it was not a place amenable to the study of the constellations, and in fact was largely underground, they politely declined.
- The Crew then kindly decided to visit Toali, who was being held in an empty room within the Tabernacle. He was doing very unwell - tear streaks lined his face, and he was muttering and stammering the whole time they spoke with him, saying he didn't belong here; that he needed to go back to Droaam, to serve the Daughters.
- Ashpin asked if Brock could do what he could to keep Toali sane, and he agreed - under one condition, that the Crew would return a favor and figure out a way to kill Brock. He said he would feel a lot better knowing there was a way out.
- When asked how long he'd been alive, Brock said he did not understand the passage of time.
- The Crew, in an attempt to improve Toali's mental state, offered to bring him back to where he belonged - Drystone College. Frisian attempted to escort Toali, but he quickly wormed out of the owlman's grip and dashed for the exit.
- N'nchyk cast Hold Person succesfully, but the whole commotion did not go unnoticed. They were confronted by a tiefling woman, but Ashpin managed to talk her down, providing all of his Library-related credentials.
- A nearby gnomish student watched the whole thing in awe, muttering to her neighbor, "That guy was my Dynamics professor last semester."
- The Crew found Toali's old office. It was on an upper floor, and was therefore fairly nice, but it was messy, and partially cleared out. All sorts of locks, seals, contraptions, and tools were scattered about.
- Toali was succesfully distracted once he was told to create a better lock for the door. Viribus, however, said the Daughters had need for a dimensional seal for a demon. Toali's eyes grew wide, and said that that was what the Daughters needed the Codex for - to study ancient sealing magic.
- The Crew left behind a busy Toali, imploring the twins to check on him often.
- Ashpin briefly visited Kallock. He said he had acquired Forbidden access, and had learned about the capabilities of the Dreaming Dark. Ashpin said he hoped to pursue the Inspired soon. Kallock said he expected no less of the One, and that where he fought, Kallock's sword would be by his side.
- Meanwhile, N'nchyk had Viribus slice off his arm in the backwoods of the Library, much to the discomfort of N'nchyk and horror of a nearby secluded gay couple.
Rahh! Sneak Attack!
- After a night's rest, the Crew returned to the N'nchyk Fern, on the path to Anvilhold. Bagan knew there was a small market just up ahead, run by an older human man and his halfling wife. The Crew made a horrible mistake - they decided to go to the market, despite the complete absence of hints of what may lie ahead and overall complete surprise.
- The Crew made it to a small food caravan, run by the human Burg. The caravan sold several foodstuffs, and Bagan quickly purchased an empanada of questionable quality. Frisian, who was still reeling from both his time on the Godless Throne and mental damage of studying the map that led to it, significantly overpaid for a mug of coffee with Burg's wife imprinted upon the mug. The coffee was unremarkable, yet entirely delicious and satiating to Frisian.
- Dooturr asked if the man sold thieves' tools. He said he sold food, and called Dooturr brainless.
- Then, Zodgilla attacked.
- He emerged from the small river that lay under the bridge. He opened his mouth, and a voice echoed out of it: "Faithless wretch. You called my name in the dark, and I answered. I delivered you from death, destroyed the enemies sent to kill you. Now you cling to a brittle light?" Frisian riposted with a sharp "Oh, shut up!"
- The fight did not go very well to start. The Crew was still exhausted from the Sanctuary, and somewhat out of practice on the battlefield. Zodgilla's breath weapon was devastating, and Sylvain was immediately immolated. His roar was also particularly frightening, both to the Crew and the poor shopkeeps.
- Zodgilla seemed intent on focusing on Frisian. His mouth opened again, and another voice spoke: "I do not forget. I do not forgive. Do you forget the village you freed? Do you forgive the baron you slayed? Your power is my gift, and my gift alone. And I have sent a reminder."
- The martials had trouble both getting and staying close. Bagan got close once, but was flung through the main market house by Zodgilla's tail. Seeing Zodgilla's focus upon Frisian, Ashpin cast Sanctuary upon him. It successfully deterred both of Zodgilla's bite attacks, but it deterred them upon Dooturr. Dooturr got chomped into the maw of Zodgilla.
- Frisian's first Banish attempt was legendarily resisted, but the second one was not. Dooturr was dropped into the river as Zodgilla disappeared.
- While Zodgilla was banished, both he and the Crew healed up. Zodgilla's breath weapon recharged, and the Crew placed themselves strategically as to not be grouped up. Frisian was Polymorphed into a T-Rex.
- Zodgilla returned. Attacks were rained upon him, but cold damage that would stop his regeneration was unavailable. They could not discern the second type that would do the same. He unleashed his breath weapon once again, sending T-Frisian skidding back, landing just in front of the food stand. Ashpin was knocked unconscious, but brought back quickly by N'nchyk.
- "You think the Silver Flame will shield you? They will burn you the moment they learn what you are. You are a beast, a destroyer — a true champion of The Devourer."
- Viribus summoned a devilish spirit with Summon Fiend, and Ashpin used Silvery Barbs to significant effect.
- However, Zodgilla had had enough. He grabbed T-Frisian by the neck, and started to drag him away, uncannily quickly.
