Kingsguard
The Kingsguard is the military organization responsible for the personal protection of King Kaius III ir'Wynarn and those he extends that protection to. They can also be deployed to investigate matters of national security at the King's request. The Kingsguard is entirely independant from the Karrnathi Army and its operatives answer to no one but the King himself. They have complete operational autonomy and have the authority to investigate, detain or even kill anyone they deem a threat to the kingdom's security.
Kingsguard operatives are never identified by their birth names. They instead adopt a code name, usually referring to a mythical creature or weapon. All were commissioned officers in the Army before being selected for Kingsguard training. Upon completion of training, they become "guardians". The second rank is "sentinel" and the uppermost rank is "justicar". The supreme commander of the Kingsguard is called "The Blackblade".
