His Royal Grace Duke August ir'Wynarn governs the city of Atur in his cousin King Kaius III ir'Wynarn's name. Following the criminalization of the Blood of Vol religion in 995, the semi-independent status of Atur, a bastion of the Blood of Vol, was revoked and August was tasked with purging the remnants of the faith. The duke has led a ruthless crusade against the Seekers of Atur, forcing every citizen to formally renounce their faith under threat of death. Two years after August's appointment as ruler of Atur, the city's population shrank by more than two-thirds, with tens of thousands of Seekers having been executed, and more having fled the city before their home was raided by the Duke's forces.
Today, Atur is a shadow of its former self, its remaining citizens working in lumber mills, farms or fisheries. Duke ir'Wynarn is still a tyrannical ruler, tolerating no dissent and constantly suspicious of everyone around him, having survived a dozen assassination attempts, which have all been followed with violent repression.
