White Baneberry
Common plants of the Feywild
Basic Information
Biological Traits
Banebarries are highly toxic and should not be ingested under any circumstances. Should someone without knowledge of this fruit or a starving fool be tempted to eat the berries despite their bitter taste, it would only take six berries to stop the hunger pangs of an adult of average constitution - permanently. Generally speaking, not consuming things with the word 'bane' in their name, would probably be advisable.
Growth Rate & Stages
The plant itself grows fairly quickly, but it looks innocuous for the first six months as the berries only start developing around that time. The number of berries on a single stalk is a decent indicator of how long the plant has been around. The more berries, the older the plant.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Like little eyeballs converging on one big, red eyestalk, these berries seem to be watching your every move - and they very well might be. Baneberries are often used by Hags in scrying rituals and often are a good indicator that you are approaching a Hag's Lair, meaning it is high time to turn around and continue your adventure elsewhere. They very rarely ever grow without having been planted and cultivated by a Hag.
