Ghost Orchid
Common plants of the Feywild
Basic Information
Anatomy
Ghost Orchids, named for the way they look, are pale, almost white Orchids with an incredibly thin stem. This makes it seem like they are floating, just like a ghost might. Sometimes, depending on one's angle, their pistils might even look like a tiny face.
Biological Traits
At first glance, a field of Ghost Orchids swaying in the breeze might look like a horde of dancing pixies but beware approaching. While these flowers are not inherently poisonous, they have extremely strong hallucinogenic properties. And when I say extremely strong, I mean the 'Even a dragon might just feel the effects of that' kind of strong - not that I ever had the displeasure of dealing with one, mind you. But I digress.
As I said, extremely hallucinogenic. They might not look like it but their petals are covered in a thin layer of mucus. Coming into contact with the mucus, even if only for a short moment, is a sure-fire way to start seeing and hearing things that are not actually there - and, at best, losing hours of your life. At worst you end up dead by wandering off a cliff that looks like a meadow to you or by becoming easy prey to one of the many predators. At this point, it should probably be noted that predators, who consume prey that is currently hallucinating due to the Ghost Orchid, will also suffer from hallucinations. Have you ever seen a hallucinating Yeth Hound? It is quite humorous, in a morbid kind of way, of course.
Ecology and Habitats
Ghost Orchids thrive in forests and cooler climates. They can be found in every Court, except for the Summer Court.
