Páichú yìji

Babalan, or Páichú yìji directly translated as the Odd One Out as many local Hibatans call him, is the Vestige of Leisure. Babalan has always been a tough man to figure, but unlike many other vestiges, with Babalan many just questions how this man even can be a decedent or in any way relate to the great Hitotsu. Babalan is incarnated as a human man, limbing, wearing dirty commoners clothes, a straw hat and usually has his fishing pool not far from him. He drinks heavily and usually in Hibatan standards is seen as quite lazy. He doesn't move very often either. In some certain social circles, you will find that Hibatan actually uses Babalans name as a slur or insult more than honouring him. But few have chosen to get close and study the way of Babalan. Those few have learned that he embodies perfectly the Leisurely side of Hitotsu. Babalan was set upon this material realm as a reminder for people, to relax and enjoy life. We are only given the one before we are to pass beyond the Elegant Gate to the Jade Gardens. In there you will have plenty of time to see the amazing Jade Gardens, but the Jade Gardens are an individualistic experience based on your life. Babalan, therefore, encourages people to experience life whilst alive, to from these gardens into exactly the haven of tranquillity you want them to be, and there is the only way of doing that: being present.

It's through this that many have actually pointed to Babalan being close to what some would refer to as a god of death, and according to legend Hitotsu did have a nemesis that he frequently fought. This nemesis was never identified and there is no tome that writes about set nemesis' name or general identifying characteristics. But some believe that this nemesis has embedded itself in Babalan and that he has been tasked with keeping this entity at bay. This would fit with the sometimes careless worldview Babalan presents and there have been reports of a great evil spirit sensed within Babalan. This evil spirit supposedly sometimes should have taken a shape. This shape has varied from being an Ox to Macaque.
