Ergonomics

The reality that flight, teleportation and the ability to phase through solid objects are all ubiquitious abilities among Rodinians has a very dramatic impact on how they design their structures, ships and population centres. Non-Rodinians would find it practically impossible to navigate around their constructs without assistance. Rodinian invincibility to mundane dangers also makes their spaces potentially dangerous, as things non-Rodinians may find hazardous are usually not identified as such within Rodinian spaces.   The fact that almost all Rodinian constructs are composed of living, semi-sentient Mycomatter further complicates things, making unauthorised access impossible and potentially lethal.   Things are also designed for Rodinians, meaning they are designed for beings with enormous physical power, dexterity, reaction time and thinking speed, as well enormous intellects. From a purely functional standpoint, it would be extremely challenging to interact with their spaces, objects and technology even if access was granted and assistance provided.

Verticality

The fact that all Rodinians can, from a very early age, defy gravity and use psikinetic telekinesis to fly has a large influence on how they design their structures.   There are for example no stairs, elevators or ramps in their buildings or ships, as Rodinians can simply fly up or down where required. Their buildings tend to have empty vertical spaces called elevation silos that run the full height of the building or ship, where Rodinians can fly up or down to reach different floors. Some buildings simply have “entrance surfaces” (analogous to doors; more below) and balconies on the outside, where Rodinians enter and exit different floors from with no way for one to walk upwards and downwards between them.   Bridges also usually aren’t seen except for purely aesthetic purposes, as rivers, canyons and spaces between buildings can be flown over.   Non-Rodinians would find it impossible to move around in their cities, ships and buildings due to the lack of elevators, stairs and ramps connecting different floors, or bridges spanning any large internal spaces or rivers/canyons. There are even buildings that float in the sky with no way to access them except for psikinetic flight, as there’s little to no transport infrastructure to assist in that.   In terms of vertical safety, a non-Rodinian would be at great unease inside their constructs. There doesn’t tend to be any form of fencing or other perimeter around great heights, as it’s impossible for a Rodinian to fall to their death given that they can fly (and are also practically immortal too). A non-Rodinian would find lethal heights all around them with no perimeters or even warnings.

Lack of Doors

Most Rodinian buildings have no doors. There are instead areas on walls marked as entrance surfaces, which are simply glorified areas of a wall demarcated with elaborate frames. They are completely solid and act like a normal wall otherwise.   Rodinians pass through these entry points using their power of psikinetic latch to modify and eliminate the electrostatic repulsion between their bodies and the material in the entrance surface. When they do this, they can pass through as though the material weren’t there. In principle they can do this with any surface, but entrance surfaces are supposed to be kept clear of any objects on the other side to minimise the risk of accidental destruction. There are always two entrance surfaces – an entry one and an exit one, to avoid Rodinians passing through each other (not dangerous, but unpleasant and weird). Not using an entrance point is considered a faux pas, as a Rodinian can accidently destroy objects on the other side of a wall if they end their psikinetic latch power too early whilst inside another object. Entrance surfaces are also usually affixed with a small device that creates a quiet noise to indicate the entry of a Rodinian in private places. This stops anyone from sneaking in unnoticed.   Their buildings and constructs are generally designed without doors or open access points so they can control sensory noise, such as sounds, wind and other outside environmental disturbances from annoying the Rodinians inside. It also stops dirt and debris from getting inside.   As their buildings and constructs are made from living Mycomatter, access control can be done by programming the Mycomatter to resist a Rodinian’s attempt to pass through it. Mycomatter will generally resist any non-Rodinian trying to use psikinetic latch to pass through it unless told otherwise, and due to it being a living creature of the Earth it possesses all the same psikinetic primacy a Rodinian soul possesses, so it won’t be overpowered.   Non-Rodinians would therefore have a hard time getting inside their ships, buildings and other constructs without permission, and they’d need great proficiency in psikinetics to pass through the Mycomatter walls unaided too. In all instances where Rodinian technology has been captured (including completely sealed Mycomatter containers), no one has ever been able to penetrate the exterior shell due to these principles.

Unidirectional Gravity

The mastery that Rodinians have over the forces of nature mean that their rooms have gravity on more than one side, which they can move between using flight. Spherical rooms can have uniform orthogonal gravity across their entire interior surface. The interiors of their constructs would therefore look very strange, with objects and people seemingly sticking to walls and ceilings, and Rodinians crossing from one opposing wall/area to another through the air.

Interiors

The interiors of Rodinian constructs are also very dimly lit, owing to their eyesight being extremely sensitive. It would be a challenge to see well in their spaces. The sensitivity of their senses demand spaces that are also extremely quiet and hygienically very clean (but not necessarily tidy). They are usually completely hermetically sealed with no draughts or odours penetrating from the outside. The Mycomatter in their constructs is usually programmed to eliminate sounds, vibrations and other disturbances from outside too, creating an illusion of being completely isolated from the outside. Mycomatter’s ability to snuff out external disturbances is so profound that it’s possible for a Rodinian Mycoship to be hit with a nuclear weapon and the occupants be only marginally aware.   Mycomatter has some requirements however due to being a living fungal entity. Interiors are usually warm and humid, conditions that some species would find uncomfortable. The air is also full of spores from the Mycelium, which seek out and consume bacteria, viruses and organic waste. They also generally provide health benefits to Rodinians inside such as increased healing, nutrition through passive inhalation/ingestion, and helping with hygiene/cleanliness. Conversely however, it will kill entities it doesn’t recognise as being a living thing of the Earth (that also isn’t an undesirable microorganism). The interiors of their constructs are therefore extremely dangerous, and non-Rodinians/non-Earth life will literally be eaten alive in minutes by an invincible super-fungus if they enter them without permission.

Lax Health and Safety

As Rodinians are essentially indestructible to mundane phenomenon, they don’t have the same concerns as most others do about health and safety. They don’t have safety precautions or warnings about things like radiation, hot gases or liquids, extremely cold substances, dangerous heights, great weights, electrical currents, corrosive or poisonous chemicals, fast and powerful moving parts, etc. None of these things are any more harmful to them than water.   Therefore, if a non-Rodinian enters a Rodinian construct, it could potentially be very hazardous. There will be little to no warning or safety measures in place to safeguard them from these sorts of dangers.

Superhuman Requirements

Objects in Rodinian spaces are essentially designed for beings with enormous physical and intellectual capability. Objects are heavy and require large amounts of strength to be used, and frequently superhuman dexterity too. Processes are fast and require microsecond or faster response times.   Objects frequently don’t even have physical interface options and instead purely rely on the user’s telepathy to communicate with the Mycomatter the object is made of, as well as telekinesis to manipulate any available control interfaces that may be located on the inside of the object’s Mycomatter exterior. Imagine a featureless box or sphere that has some controls inside the otherwise indestructible exterior. You’d need to reach inside with telekinesis to access them, or ask the Mycomatter the object is made of to carry out its function. And the Mycomatter is only going to respond to a Rodinian, or permit the penetration of a Rodinians’ telekinesis. For everyone else, it’s useless.   Objects are also designed for super-geniuses, which all Rodinians are. They are complicated, convoluted and have no obvious way to interact with them. Any “technology” Rodinians do possess is necessarily doing something a Rodinian can’t do themselves, which therefore means that whatever this device is doing is extremely complex. An example is the navigational systems of a Rodinian ship folding space-time. The Rodinian can’t fold space-time themselves as it requires too much psikinetic power. The Rodinian however does the calculations for it and tells the ship how to bend space-time. Navigation is therefore just an interface between the Rodinian’s mind and the ship’s mind where the Rodinian performs thousands of calculations every moment in the back of theirs, telling the ship where to go. Rodinians have yet to discover anyone intelligent enough to come close to piloting their ships.
