Timber Mammoth

Mammuthus silvatherus

Living in the many Boreal forests of Titanios, the Timber Mammoth cultivates meadows and prairies that sporadically break up the seemingly endless forests. Fairly smaller than their open steppe relatives to the south, with bulls standing 3 meters at the shoulder, their tusks are notably smaller and straighter than other mammoths, this allows them to travel in denser parts of the forest where large predators cannot follow which has been key to their survival in a world dominated by saurian predators. Herds are made up of females and their calves, while males are solitary like traditional elephants, only searching out their own kind to breed, however it is frequently observed that males will answer the distress cries of other timber mammoths regardless of relation.

Like many ecosystem engineers, the overall health of the forests and meadows they cultivate rely on them. Many species of grazers follow timber mammoths herd to feed on the vegetation exposed by the herd pushing smaller trees out of their way, which over time creates these meadows.
