Scuttling Terrabite
Ankylokoch pestus
Trilobites have been around in the Hollow Earth since the Cambrian and it is no surprise that their evolution would take many unique paths. One such case being the extensive clade known as Terrabites. Fossil evidence shows that they quickly established their presence on land in the Ordovician, feeding on the primitive plants already established there and in turn hunted by the terrestrial orthocones that followed them onto land.
Modern Terrabites fill a similar ecological niche to many detritovore invertebrates, most common of these being the Scuttling Terrabite. Found throughout Lemuria, Mu and the Garden Continents, these 4 inch long heavily armoured arthropods feed on decaying plant matter, wood and fungi, keeping the forest floor clean of rot and potential diseases. Scuttling Terrabites congregate in large groups under damp logs and leaves for shelter and while adults are completely independent from water, their eggs and larvae are not and must be kept moist in order to breathe properly. Breeding season occurs during the wet season because of this.
Terrabites are known by another name given to them by GDF agents stationed in the Hollow Earth; Shellroaches. This is due to their status as pests, known to regularly slip into crop facilities and feed on the crops.
