Regal Caracal

Caracal campusensis

The Regal Caracal is a fairly widespread species, with populations and subspecies found throughout Lemuria, but the Regal Caracal itself is found in Central to South Lemuria. Filling a mesopredator niche similar to most wildcats found on both the surface and in the Hollow Earth, hunting birds, lizards, amphibians and occasionally small dinosaurs. Their pelts are pale tan with dark grey stripes, with many populations favouring melanistic genes, particularly in forested environments. Regal Caracals spend the majority of their time resting in trees or on rocky outcrops, out of the reach of larger predators they share their habitat with, due to the lack of plentiful trees in the southern range, Regal Caracals are far more tolerant and social than other wildcats are with their own kind, with multiple individuals willing to share the same perch and even occasional work together in hunts. While resting, regal caracals are known to purr to their neighbours to indicate that they are calm and content, when a new arrival to the resting spot does not purr, the original occupants are known to hiss and swat at the newcomer.
