Giant-Red Dog

Magnacyon rufus

Magnacyon rufus (Giant-Red Dog) is the largest non-hyperfauna canid ever discovered. M. rufus is 8 meters tall at the shoulder and covered in dark red fur, and like other members of the subfamily Borophaginae, Magnacyon possesses powerful bone-crushing jaws with a biteforce of 9,000 PSI. Magnacyon fossils have been dated to the late Pliocene to Present Day, however most if not all specimens have gone extinct on the surface of the Earth. Magnacyon and its relatives fed on the many megafauna species that roamed the planet, with the bulk of M. rufus' diet being elephant relatives and rhinos, but this reliance on large prey meant it saw the decline of its numbers after the last Ice Age, with the only living specimens found in the Hollow Earth, where packs of 3-7 individuals still hunt. Magnacyon are pursuit predators, possessing a surplus of stamina that is used to chase prey and exhaust them, all while pack members attempt to bite the limbs of the targeted prey. Once prey it too exhausted to continue fleeing, two pack members will grab the legs while the rest of the pack will bite along the neck and spine until the prey is either paralyzed or bleeds out. Magnacyon packs are strictly hierarchical similar to hyenas, pups inherit the position of their parent they share their sex with, however females will leave their birth pack to join another pack or form their own.
