Emperor Wyvern

Dracowyvern reignus

Top predator of the Lemurian mountain ranges, the male Emperor Wyvern at 22 meters long and with a wingspan of 45 meters and females half this size, nothing is off the menu for these behemoths of the sky. Covered in head to tail in obsidian black scales, emperor wyverns typically hunt at night to blend in with the dark sky. Their hunting strategy usually comprises of blitzing prey and torching them before they can react. This strategy, while very effective when set up right, it only has a small margin of error. If the wyvern; is spotted beforehand or misses the initial attack, won't get another chance as prey rush to a safe place the wyvern can't follow.

Male Emperors reach such massive sizes to lie a generally nomadic lifestyle, where females are sedentary. Females come into season at completely random times, meaning males need to be constantly surveying territories for a chance to mate. Males possess massive crowns of thorns with display fitness as well as protect the head in combat with rival males. Emperor Wyverns are also believed to be the ancestral species to the Atlantian Wyvern; a domesticated species. It is unknown how the Ancient Atlantians were able to get access to the Hollow Earth and its dragon populations, but it is also possible a small population of Emperor Wyverns traveled through the tunnels leading to the island continent of Atlantis where the Atlantians were able to tame them.
