Cracking Parrotfish
Cetoscarus crackus
Cetoscarus crackus (Cracking Parrotfish) is a tropical fish native to the Shatter Atoll islands. This species has a notably larger and stronger beaked mouth compared to its surface relatives, this is to allow it to break into the shells of mollusks and crustaceans as well as the shelled seeds of the Hermes Tree.
Juveniles are born female and are black or grey in colour. Females will change sex usually after their first breeding season and will remain a brightly coloured territorial male for the rest of their life.
