Celtic Kelpie

Kelpihippus celticus

Kelpihippus celticus (Celtic Kelpie) is a semi-aquatic equine relative. Unlike all other equine, the Kelpie and its relatives in the subfamily Carnequinae are carnivorous or omnivorous. The Celtic Kelpie is an ambush predator, using its short, usually dark coloured fur to camouflage into the foliage of its swampy habitat. The mouth of a kelpie is longer that a normal equine and can open far wider. The teeth are more suited for a carnivorous diet, with the canines redeveloping on the both upper and lower jaw, the jaw strength is comparable to that of the Entelodont.

Kelpies are ambush and short pursuit predators, choosing to wait at the edge of bodies of water, half submerged until prey comes to drink. Once in range, the kelpie explodes out of the water and grabs its target by the head or neck, its large sharp canines will either puncture the windpipe or pierce the skull.
