Mana Crystal

A mana crystal, or magic crystal, is a crystal formed as a result of the condensation of a large amount of magic. They are often found in geodes along ley lines.

Material Characteristics

This mineral is a red or purple crystal with a faint light coming from within.

Physical & Chemical Properties

This crystal is slightly warm and very light. A bit of invisible gas-like magic oozes from it, which is harmful in the long run. It is not flammable but the magic within can run amok if not handled correctly.

Compounds

Mana crystals are often used in alchemy and to create magical artefacts.

Life & Expiration

It takes a few decades for the crystal to lose its power. It varies according to the magic intensity and the size of the mineral.

History & Usage

Everyday use

It is used in every aspect of life as a magic source for magical artefacts.

Hazards

The gas-like magic oozing from the crystal will mutate the body of people exposed to it in the long run. The mutation can be internal or external and will affect the person's health and everyday life until they either become a monster or die.

If the crystal is manhandled, the magic within can run amok or even explode.

Not so fun fact: The few people who discovered mana crystals tasted sweet died in excruciating pain.

Environmental Impact

Contrary to its effects on people, mana crystals are very beneficial to plants but any edible plants growing near them becomes unsafe for consumption.

Reusability & Recycling

Once it is empty, a mana crystal's light fade and it becomes a purple dust, which can be used as fertilizer for non-edible plants.

Trade & Market

In a lot of countries, only people with magic powers can trade mana crystals. As for smallfolk people, anyone can trade it.

It is necessary to use a magic sealed box to store these crystals.
