We are now approaching the tenth year of the so-called Age Of Marvels. Ever since the second World War, but especially since the Flight of the Fantastic, the Special Hazards Investigation-Enforcement-Logistics Directorate has been at the forefront of keeping the public informed and protected. But our history goes back much further.   If you are reading this, you are a new employee of this prestigious international organisation, or maybe you’re just looking to refresh your memory. Maybe you work in the Archives and need to quickly look up one of our Special Hazards. Or you’re an Agent making a report. Either way, welcome to the Stacks, SHIELD’s dedicated database for all Special Hazards.   Special Hazards are things that exist outside conventional science and understanding. These days most people accept things like magic, weird science and superpowers. But for most of SHIELD’s history, and long before, Special Hazards have simply been weird objects from alternate worlds. It is only during the Age of Marvels that our work has to go public.   We know that we are Earth-8692. This has been confirmed by different extra-dimensional entities that seem to know these things. What this means is unclear, but provides an important baseline for finding out where Special Hazards come from. Our reality seems to be a ‘gyre’ for dimensional flotsam and jetsam, and intentionally so. We are a dimensional pressure valve that mean we get an excess of Special Hazards compared to similar, nearby realities. There are also several "near-by" dimensions that we have some information about.
