Sleep/Exhaustion
An important consideration to make is how much time characters have to get things done; for many capes, this is a part-time gig, done in the hours they can eek out between work, too-little sleep, and whatever semblance of a life they can maintain. Generally speaking, 8-10 hours for a full work-day (fully alert and able to focus on the matters at hand), with the other time spent taking care of personal/household matters and restful sleep. Yes, one can push this to get more time at times, but doing so often leads to sleep deprivation/exhaustion, and the penalties/realities that come with it. Some characters may be able to handle such efforts better than others. Also, keep in mind these rates/values are for superheroes in their prime - most normal people cannot compete, and will only make it half the duration before penalties/moving down the scale.
- Minimal Sleep: 1-4 hours a night for 2-6 weeks OR no sleep for 48 hours; -2 Initiative, -1 Dodge, -20% speed, -15 Skill performance
- Pushing Too Hard: 1-4 hours a night for 7-16 weeks OR no sleep for 72 hours; -2 PB and MA (looks tired, cranky), -1 Attack, -4 initiative, -2 Strike, -2 Parry, -3 Dodge, -40% Speed, -30% Skill performance, fatigues 5x faster.
- Exhausted to Collapse: 1-4 hours of sleep for more than 17 weeks, no sleep for 80-168 hours (4-7 days PB and MA reduced by half, -2 Attacks, All cmobat bonuses *and* saving throws reduced to 1, no Initiative, -70% Speed, -60% to skills. Needs 15-20 minutes rest after 10-15 minutes of combat or heavy exertion. if allowed to rest, will sleep for 1D6+4 hours and *still* wake up exhausted. Will need 3 days of 7-9 hours of sleep and nothing more than light activity to move back to Pushing Too Hard, a full week for Minimal Sleep, and 10-14 days for a full recovery.
- Beyond Collapse: By this point, the character has only 1 attack, no initiative, maximum of 10% on all skills, only 10% speed. frequent hallucinations and can only remember things in a blur, if at all. By day 9, the character will collapse and sleep for 5D6+30 hours, during which they *cannot* be woken up. recovery after this is as noted above, taking a few extra days.
NOTE: Characters with Healing Factor, Extraordinary PE, Adapt to Environment, Alter mEtabolism, Invulnerability, Supernatural Strength, Full-Conversion Cyborgs, Transferred Intelligences and AI can get away with as little as four hours of leep consistently without penalty (though 5-6 hours is better).
Minimal Sleep for them is only 1-2 hours a night for 2-6 weeks or 72 hours of no sleep. After 72 hours of no sleep, they will only be
Pushing Too Hard up to 7-10 days of no sleep. Also recover twice as quickly
