Speed King

PERSONAL HISTORY

While working for the United States government within their Super soldier program, Tony Draper had a near fatal accident when his experiment suffered a catastrophic failure. Draper was trying to enhance a person's strength, speed, and stamina by increasing the electromagnetic force that interacts within a subject's atoms and molecules. This was to be achieved by placing the subject within a machine called the EM Pulsator. The machine, which Draper had invented, bombarded a subject's body with pulsating waves of Electromagnetism.

Preliminary animal experiments were exceedingly promising, but the two human subjects who volunteered for the program both suffered a myocardial infarction (heart attack). One subject died and the other was left severely brain damaged.

In the wake of these failures, the government pulled its funding and shut down the experiment. However, Draper was desperate to prevail, and so arranged for one final experiment with a third subject. After going over the data and recalculating the length and strength of the EM pulses he was positive he would succeed, and so he powered up the machine.

It exploded destroying his laboratory and an entire wing of the government institute he was working from. Draper was the only person within the destruction that survived. In the explosion he had been thrown several miles from the lab but miraculously only suffered minor cuts and bruises.

It didn't take long before his doctors and superiors in the government realised that Draper had changed, that his experiment had been an overwhelming success. He wasn't thrown from the building in the disaster, he had run from the building at an incredible speed, faster than the explosion and the ensuing debris and shrapnel.

In the briefest moment after the machine failed an electromagnetic pulse had infused every atom of his body enhancing his speed and reflexes to super human levels.

Soon after, Draper was enlisted by the Special Covert Executive (SCE) to join a team of super soldiers to fight the Nazis and the Japanese. He took the code-name Speed King and was soon established as a valuable member of the Society of Heroes and became a World War 2 legend along with the other heroes.
