H.E.R.B.I.E.
PERSONAL HISTORY
The first prototype H.E.R.B.I.E. was created by Tear (John Ryker) of the Fabulous Four to aid in the search for Galactus and to act as his personal laboratory assistant. HERBIE was designed to be smart, helpful and generally cheerful. Incredibly, he actually turned out to be all those things.
In fact, the H.E.R.B.I.E. project was such a success that Ryker slowly began to produce more H.E.R.B.I.E.s. Within a few years, H.E.R.B.I.E. units were running almost all of the day-to-day activities at the Fabulous Four’s headquarters.
H.E.R.B.I.E. units sometimes accompany the Fabulous Four on their adventures across time and space. However, the average H.E.R.B.I.E.’s duties are far more pedestrian. For example, a specialized H.E.R.B.I.E. unit often acts as the personal caretaker to Ryker's’ two children, Andrew and Valerie.
