Dark Dimension

The Dark Dimension, also known as Subwhere, is a universe that contains even more spatial coordinates and directions than the Earth 530 universe, being described as a pan-dimensional realm (a domain endowed with infinite dimensional layers), which eventually incorporated an endless number of pocket dimensions. Gravity there is weaker and the fabric of space is more porous, with gravity decreasing rapidly with distance. Hence it results in a more fragile spacetime with a less pronounced "glue effect", while also making possible the existence of the adjacent pocket universes. This is the dimension to which Dormammu and Umar travelled after they were both banished by the Faltine. It has long been ruled by Dormammu, who seeks to seize other dimensions to add to his realm.

It was a Hell, and the largest part of the original Dark Dimension, that was shattered and became known as the Splinter Realms, or Archipelago of Anguish and Redemption.

History

ORIGIN

The original Dark Dimension was once a single massive plane, but was shattered into many planes during a conflict long ago: the Splinter Realms, or Archipelago of Anguish and Redemption.

The largest remaining piece became known as the Dark Dimension. That status of largest and most aggressive dimension allowed it to successfully conquer and assimilate many of the Splinter Realms into itself, using mystic means to merge into a single domain, a synthesis of realities. In effect, the number of realities merged into only one was stated to be endless. Being a universe, in contrast with the clearly finite pocket dimensions, it is an infinite pan-dimensional spacetime. The ruling social class in this dimension was the multi-species group of wizards known as the Mhuruuks.

EARLY YEARS

As life evolved in the Dark Dimension and civilization developed, wars were fought between different groups and the light of civilization was almost lost several times. Eventually, under the leadership of Oka'an, the Mhuruuks gathered and agreed to a lasting peace. The result was a golden age of peace and security for the races of the Dark Dimension that lasted for 28 "great" cycles (the equivalent of 28,000 Earth-years).

Eventually, a Mhuruuk named Olnar became the latest wizard-king to rule the realm. Olnar dreamed of returning to the days of warfare and conquest, something that the other Mhuruuks regarded as a very bad idea,

DORMAMMU & UMAR

The two fugitive Faltine known as Dormammu and Umar were banished from their home dimension (Faltine Dimension) and eventually travelled to the Dark Dimension where they befriended Olnar and played upon these desires. They showed Olnar how to make conquest of other dimensions and bond them with his own. Olnar greedily subjugated several dimensions and added them to his own domain.

In time, the rogue Faltines led Olnar to shatter the barrier between his dimension and that of the Mindless Ones, a horde of soulless brutes that exist simply to destroy anything that lies in their path. The Mhuruuks were beaten back by the onslaught and many were slain, including Olnar. Dormammu and Umar then slew or exiled any wizards that might oppose them. Then they barred the Mindless Ones behind a great mystical barrier.

This battle weakened Umar, and she became subordinate to her brother. Dormammu ascended the throne as regent and ruler of the Dark Dimension. Dormammu partially re-assumed his Faltinian form of flame, but Umar chose to remain in her humanoid form.
