Spineball- species

Spineballs are very strange creatures, and were a mystery to many animal-watchers all over Earck. They are known to be very flighty and are never a danger unless hit by their spines. They stand about two feet off the ground and are incredibly fast for their strange method of transportation. They spend most of their time in looking for two things: water, and a mate. They have a curious habit of pounding the ground with their arms to intimidate predators and warn any near members of their kind.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

This species reproduces, oddly enough, by killing itself. When mating, the male will find the highest ground it can, and then jump off. When it hits the ground instead of tightening up as normal in order to bounce, it lets itself be crushed by the fall. This produces a liquid that is then transferred to the female.

Growth Rate & Stages

When it is first born, this creature has no spines, but a thick coating of small plates or scales. These slowly thicken and grow longer as the creature grows and then hardens into long spines which are then filled with paralyzing poison. This species lives for an average of up to 13 years, which is the normal mating age, although the females or males who do not mate can live for up to 21 years.

Ecology and Habitats

This species was first found on the shore of the Poison Lake, and Madoogid. It

Dietary Needs and Habits

This creature needs little nutrients, consuming about half its body weight in water every week. However, it gets all the nutrients it needs from the water: after spending a day solely soaking itself in the water, it has absorbed enough to sustain itself for many more days.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

This creature uses its long tentacles and spines in order to perceive its environment. It’s arms are covered with heat sensing bumps that can perceive the heat of another creature and it’s environment from the distance of about thirty feet. Beyond this point however, they are almost completely blind.
Conservation Status
This species is a deep glossy black, and covered with long thin flexible spines that can excrete a paralyzing poison. They have a spherical body, and two long tentacles that are used for rolling; which is their way of movement, and sensing. This species has a very mysterious skeletal structure, having no bones in either of its two limbs and a very shock-absorbent body. Few animal-watchers know what kind of skeletal structure they have.
