Shapechanger's Curse
The "Shapechanger's Curse" is a magical chronic condition that is obtained by failing to use The Forces correctly.
Transmission & Vectors
One of the lesser-known uses of Elsoma is that of taking on the form of other living creatures by changing the structure of one's own body. This is called shapechanging, and is separate from possession. The "Shapechanger's Curse" is obtained through the failure to perform this act correctly.
Causes
When shapechanging there are several key dangers, these include: Failure of your body to change, failure to keep your right mind, or failure of your body to change back to your previous form.
The first and last dangers are merely due to a lack of skill in your wizardry, and can be avoided by mastering the pronunciation, mindset and structure of Runic Speech. The second danger is much harder to avoid. Its cause is thought to stem from the enormous change coming over one's body, which then results in a fractured mind. The only real way to avoid this danger is to simultaneously transform one's body while using Elgnomi to hold together the mind. This, however, requires learning an entire new dialect in Runic Speech, as well as learning how to mesh dialects which is a skill known by few.
