Lauch (Lawch)
Basic Information
Anatomy
Lauches are very similar to slugs. They are large, with no shell and a squelchy, wet body. However, they slouch, with their body set vertically upon their hind-quarters, upon four small, stumpy legs. These help them balance while they reach their stretchy body up towards leaves or stems of plants. Upon desiring to move any long distance, they lay down flat on their belly and slowly wiggle along their way.
Genetics and Reproduction
During mating season, this creature needs a large amount of luck to find a mate. They usually collect at water-sources, and from there the mating begins. They are also cannibalistic, and females consume the males...
Growth Rate & Stages
Lauches are originally birthed in eggs, which they dissolve and eat upon hatching. They then search for food and water, and keep doing that until they die.
Ecology and Habitats
This species needs a relatively cool, moist and lush environment. It uses the juices from leaves and the water of small puddles or creek banks to keep moist and healthy.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Lauches have no social structures, they are cannibals.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
One reason the Lauch needs so much moisture is to make the slimy coating of venom which covers its body. This venom can kill most predators within three minutes of having ingested it. The substance Lauches produce is used to poison arrow-heads, (or anything else) and is very useful to many hunters. Lauch Poison can be sold in most small settlements for a biid or two, depending on the quantity.
Facial characteristics
The face of a Lauch is very much like that of a snail, with two long, gelatinous eye-stalks, and two lower tentacles which help feed leaves into its small mouth.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
The exotic Lauch is primarily found in the Goop Lands, as well as the Everlasting Wood. A slightly smaller, dark orange lauch has also been spotted by a famous animal-watcher, Noebo the Nitt, in the woods of Madoogid.
Average Intelligence
Lauches do not have intelligence.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
The Lauch has two eyes set upon flexible stalks, which allow it to see a short distance (2 feet). It also has two short tentacles located just beneath its mouth which help it grab leaves and feed it into its mouth.
