Stalls on marketday in Red Square

1. Microboorks

Spices in riotous colour — mounds of saffron, cinnamon, peppercorns, and star anise piled high in brass bowls. The air around the stall practically glows golden.

2. The Hide and Seek

Mounds of leather and worked leather goods are plied on a table or hung haphazardly from the stall,

3. Fletcher’s Roost

Baskets bristle with arrows, hunting bows, and crossbow bolts.

4. The Singing Cask

A wine and spirits stall; jugs of plum brandy, spiced rum from the coast, and novelty fruit liqueurs.

5. Candied Wonders

Stacks of honeyed figs, candied lotus roots, sesame-sugar wafers, and brightly dyed spun sugar.

6. The Perfumed Veil

An exotic perfume stand with small glass vials of rosewater, ambergris balm, and heady jasmine oils. The scents are so thick the air around the stall feels charged.

7. Iron & Ember

A blacksmith stall with rows of practical ironware — horseshoes, pans, nails

8. The Menagerie Cage

Exotic animals in cramped cages: bright-feathered birds, a desert fox, even a tiny lizard.

9. Scrolls & Songs

A bookseller’s table covered with rolled parchments, hymnals, and battered tomes.

10. The Painted Mask

Lacquered masks and painted fans. The stall is a riot of colour and theatricality.

11. The Crimson Slab

A butcher’s stall draped with crimson canvas, selling smoked meats, blood sausages, and salt-pickled fish.

12. The Copper Reed — Musical Instruments

Description: A stall filled with hand-carved flutes, lyres, tambourines, and delicate reed instruments, their polished woods gleaming in the sun. The vendor, an elderly half-elf , tunes and tests them with surprising skill.

13. The Dyer’s Ribbon

Description: Long coils of dyed silk and linen in brilliant hues drape from poles and ropes. The air is thick with the sharp scent of vinegar and pigment. The proprietor always seems half-stained in blue or red.

14. The Sailor’s Knot

Description: A stall dedicated to rope, nets, and rigging supplies, run by a weathered, loud, and endlessly talkative, sailor.
