Tribes of Mek'thata
Like all elves, thorn elves have a tendency to distribute political power, and place the greatest power at local levels. However, this is in conflict with their strong belief of survival of the fittest, which causes strong individuals to accrue power rapidly. There are a number of mechanisms they use to counteract this. The first and most obvious is that there is always a bigger fish, and the strong tend to compete with other strong men so no individual grows too strong. It is very common for temporary alliances to from to stop the rise of the fastest growing rulers. They also place a significant emphasis on testing strength, and indeed the primary role of powerful warriors is hunting the most dangerous monsters. As a result, their lives are far more dangerous than most others, and shorter. This includes expeditions to the wildlands. These are usually pursued by a group of tribes working together, and are a common way for the tribes to resolve budding rivalries without open conflict.
