Jousting
In order to train for combat, a stylized form of combat similar to jousting has been developed in Eälendspar. However, due to the importance of magic in Eälendspar it takes on a very different form. The two combatants will meet in a ring, and the goal will be to complete a specific symbol that has been identified as being perfect for jousting. This symbol is chiral, and so there are two forms that can be completed but each is built of the same components. The two combatants will then each try to complete this symbol in a specific way, but each wins only with one specific conformation of the symbol. In order to control which conformation the symbol will end in, the combatants need to stand in specific locations within the arena, so that they can reach that part of the symbol, and so rules are devised about how the combatants control part of the arena based on their positions and actions. The who process simulates the important aspects of a magical duel, where mages use their cantrips and physical combat skills to create and control space to complete their fight ending spell.
