I Alma

The physical building of the Magical University of I alma is an architectural marvel. It is situated a bit away from the nearest city, amid rolling hills and a few kilometers from the coast. It is actually a number of smaller buildings, around a central courtyard with a main hall in the middle. The majority of the buildings are single story stone structures, built elegantly in a rustic city elven style. There is also a long narrow and tall single story dining hall, dueling fields, laboratories, and professors towers. The dueling fields and labs are similar constructions, being primarily built to channel with winds of magic in predictable ways. The dueling fields are open air however, just having the minimal structure to achieve this effect, with a central pit with a layer of sawdust for traction, and spectator seating. The labs vary in size, but are thick stone standalone structures with one main room, many shelves, and sometimes storage closets. The professors tower are the main housing for staff, and are much taller than most of the other buildings, usually 4-5 stories, and circular, with the rooms arranged radially on each floor. Rank is closely associated with height in the building, with the headmaster having the entire top floor of one tower. There is another tower some distance away which is narrower, and at the top is an astronomical observatory. In the center of the main courtyard is another large hall, masterfully crafted for the focus of winds. This is occasionally used for classes or demonstrations, but is rarely used for anything. In crisis however, it allows the faculty of I Alma to achieve magical feats that can change the nature of the world. There are a number of other specialist building, including the connected forge and enchanting center, a significant library/museum, and finally the classrooms which are similar in construction to the labs but have thinner walls and are generally more comfortable.   As the climate of I Alma is rather mild, but can have snow in the winter the roofs are moderately sloped, and the walls are neatly constructed with smooth edges. The classrooms and student housing have thatch roofs, while the main building have tile roofs, and get much colder in the winter, but are better situated to the complex construction needed to focus the winds (including all towers).
