Fethian Jungle
Situated at the foot of the mountains on the Ganewenil peninsula, the fethian jungles are one of the most inhospitable places in Eälendspar. Unlike the rest of the penninsula, which is known for its dry craggy mountains and volcanoes, and extreme temperatures, these jungles are a complete contrast of the most wind battered and rainiest location. In some parts of this jungle, annual rainfall can exceed 200 meters, so the soil is constantly eroded, and despite the rain there is little to no fresh water, all groundwater being polluted by the nearby sea. At a distance this place may seem a verdant paradise, and certainly it is green, but the steep competition for nutrients leads to some of the most vicious life in the sphere. Most life has evolved to not only consume other life, but to trap any life that passes by so that its nutrients do not wash out to sea.
Geography
This is a jungle at the base of shear cliffs, though it the jungles themselves are quite flat. Due to the continuous erosion and low level the land is heavily infiltrated by seawater. The area is also perpetually lashed by hurricane winds coming from sea.
Ecosystem
The base of this jungle is mangroves and other similar plants which can live in brackish water. They form the initial structural support that traps some nutrients on which the who system depends, but the extreme rainfall means even they are constantly at risk of washing out to sea. Other vines and parasitic plants grow between the mangroves, completing the net to trap nutrients, but frequently bursting from the pressure on them during the extremely frequent floods. Many of these plants are carnivorous, filter feeding from the detritus that flows past nearly every day.
Ecosystem Cycles
It floods almost every evening as the rainfall increases for heavy to torrential. All but the strongest vines and plants are torn away, releasing their trapped nutrients to the next dam. Animals burrow into the strongest mangroves and knots of vines, protecting themselves but weakening the plants. When the rain lightens up slightly in the morning, they immediately scavenge to find any plants or especially animals that did not make it through the nights flood.
Natural Resources
Though rarely harvested, due to the inhospitable terrain and equally inhospitable rulers, the plants of this region have developed the toughest fibers anywhere on Eä, and can be used to make excellent rope or other textiles. Textile armor made from this material is almost as hard as metal, while being far lighter and slightly more flexible.
