Realms of the Dead
It is said that when anything dies in Eainor, it is returned to its natural element. Birds fly forever in the distant sky, fish still swim in the deepest of trenches, and Men walk forever below the ground.
While the three Realms of the Dead are all formidable, we shall mainly discuss only the Realm of Earth, of Tol, for that is where most Men spend eternity.
Summary
Buried in the Earth
When Men die, they are returned to the Earth. Yet while some believe that the body shall rot and soon disappear forever, others know that the body reforms in the Halls of the Dead, along with all others who have been lost to history.
Now most bodies are buried near their homes so that their homeward journey may be brief. However, not all bodies are buried close to home, and they must make their trek back. This trek is called the Homestretch, and once the dead soul arrives, they shall remain forever at peace with their loved ones at home.
Families who know that their dearly departed must make the Homestretch can help if they wish. Light a lantern, and before it tell all you loved about your lost. Write letters, sing songs, draw pictures. Feel their presence and what it meant to you. Now take this lantern, and bury it by your doorstep. This lantern may go out as it is buried, but its light shall shine like a beacon beneath the ground, and the more love you put into it, all the brighter it shall shine.
Once home, the Dead shall wait to be reunited once more.
Roaming Free
While most Men wish to rejoin their kin, some feel no such attachments. Some Men simply wander the endless dark until they may be recalled to another life on the surface. Others, however, still wish for a peaceful eternity, so they find it in the Realms of Sky ans Sea. There they can fly and float forever on endless blue until the end of time.
Those who wish for this should be buried in their element; set afloat on a boat; ashes scattered on high mountain peaks; or whatever other way they may be set free. However, if a soul yearning for freedom is buried in the ground, not all hope is lost. Here they begin their Homestretch. Though the Realms do not intersect often, portals between Realms do exist, and those who need it may find them.
Connected
Just as connections lie between the Realms, the Realms connect also to the Land of the Living. The most notable connection is The Memory Stone, but many others exist. But traveling between the Lands of Life and Death is one of the most difficult feats of magic known to Eainor.
