Ruminations of Dodona

Overview

The Ruminations of Dodona is a collection of summaries of the futures that Archmage Dodona wrote down. It has been split into many different editions, each containing a few summaries that Archmage Dodona published. Archmage Dodona is still writing and divining, so there will be more sections in the future.

As seen in Ea’s history, it is very difficult for different races to work together. We have also seen it difficult for a species to work well with itself. These relationships have sparked many wars among the people. The most aggressive of these are the humans. One may attribute it to their short lifespan and wish to achieve something that will let them live on in memory, others say it was the way they are created. A friend of mine, Brunneis, says nothing is more creative or destructive than a brilliant mind with a purpose. Regardless of our views on humanity, it is clear that they are unique, and this uniqueness may be the end of us all. I have sat in meditation for years, contemplating and divining about our future, and one result stands out in particular to me. Originally this was proposed by a student of mine, the thought that one species will wipe out all of the rest. I have no idea how he thought of this conclusion, but it sparked an interest in me. I thought about this for ages, and came to agree with his statement. Wars are constantly being fought everywhere. Many of them are between species, others are between groups in that species. In most of these wars, humans are involved. Most of the interspecies battles are also between humans. These are the reasons why I believe that if a species were to cause this mass extinction, it would be them. However, after almost every war, the races on both sides have survivors, who reproduce. This brought up the thought that many wars have occured, but none of them the size required for mass extinction, let alone the removal of a race. I consulted a historian, and they found an interesting piece of history written about in many ancient poems and songs. This story speaks of an age where magic was much more powerful and prominent. During this time everything possessed much power and our world was one large continent. The historian said it was during this age that many ancient ruins we found were built. They also informed me there was another species, referred to in the poems as “Ingentis,” roughly translating to Colossus. These Colossi were the builders of our world, similar to Gods, but less in power. The sentient species lived in awe of these massive creatures, said to be tall enough to touch the sky, and some did worship them as gods. Others sought to take their power. A certain human by the name of Reltih Floda experimented and eventually found a way to take the Colossus’s immense power. Reltih Floda built massive towers around the globe under the pretence of establishing a worldwide monument in honor of the Colossi. Once they were all constructed, Reltih Floda performed a ritual with his followers on each tower. Many onlookers who thought this was a celebration for their completion heard music floating down from each spire. His actions somehow wiped out the Colossus population and with all of the force and magic used, tore the world apart. This story is proof that extinction has been done before, and can be repeated. After learning about this information, I started to perform divination rituals. With knowledge of what I was looking for, I would be able to discern if mass extinction at the hands of humans would occur in the future. Many resources were spent in the discovery of the truth. The result has been recorded and stored in a hidden and secure location. The Assembly of Archmagi has decided that knowledge of what was found must not become public knowledge.   Dodona, Archmage of the Department of Divination
