Magic Brush Inn

WIP
This article is incomplete and will receive the love and attention it deserves when more details are known.

The travelers turned into a small side street, where the scent of paints, oils, fresh wood shavings, and flowery herbs wafted toward them. Pennants and garlands hung everywhere between the houses, with various plants climbing up their brightly painted walls. Finally, they reached the inn, perhaps four windows wide, built between two houses and the two shops the merchant had described to them at the market.

The lines of the house were crooked, wavy, or deformed. The walls resembled a colorful jungle full of fantastic mythical creatures. It looked as if the windows were slipping out of their frames like molten, viscous glass, yet everything held together tightly. Now they could also see the sign of the house the merchant had pointed out. Glowing letters, some with big grins and big eyes, and a bouncing paintbrush pointed them in the right direction.

The "Magic Brush Inn" is located in the southwestern artists' and jugglers' quarter of Aqila. The owner of this enchanting establishment is the fairyelf Dalvadi Tausendbunt, a surrealist fanatic of round shapes and magical, morphing color combinations. However, it is run by his muse, Galatrix Tausenbunt, who has a special knack for bringing the master back down to earth with all his colorful follies, despite his eccentricities.

Magic Clue

Already on the sign above the entrance, visitors are greeted by a bouncing brush, which repeatedly paints the name of the inn in different languages, letters, and colors on the changing wooden board. Sometimes the letters on the sign dance, sometimes they glow, and sometimes they have little faces that smile or scowl. Some visitors say that you can predict the owner's mood from the brush and the letters, something Dalvadi Tausendbunt would, of course, deny at any moment.

"Where the inn was supposed to be, we saw a street with busy shops from afar, and we immediately wanted to turn back, as our inn had apparently been demolished to make way for a new alley.

Only when we got closer did we see the magnificent illusion the artist had left on the wall. If the brush hadn't been pointing at the door, we would have easily missed the entrance, which had been hidden with paint."

Guests should always remember the address at Shimmer-Glimmer-Alley 22, because on their next visit, the inn will look completely different, with only the bouncing paintbrush and the sign reminding them of their last stay. For this reason, it's difficult to describe the building in guidebooks, because what you see today will be history the following week.

Nevertheless, many guests keep finding this magical place and will likely never forget it. It's probably best to memorize the two adjacent buildings with the shops "Enchanting & Hypocritical Oracles" and "Pinx's Magic Needle Arts" between which the inn is located for a future visit, so they can find it again later.
"As we left the inn, the wall glowed a somber red with glowing golden symbols and columns with horned devils writhing on them. The atmosphere of the facade weighed on our spirits, as if we'd gotten up on the wrong side of the bed.

But when we looked back a few meters down the street, the dreary facade had given way to a cotton-candy dream of sweets, which brought a smile back to each of our faces."

Author's Notes

Dear readers,
You've probably recognized the two artists behind the names. If not, they are Salvador Dali (1904-1989), a Spanish painter, graphic artist, writer, sculptor, and stage designer, and one of the leading representatives of Surrealism; and Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000), an Austrian artist, opponent of "straight lines" and known for numerous curved, colorful buildings in Germany, Austria, New Zealand, and Japan.

I love this article and this answer for the prompt, its fantastic, and great nod to the inspirations for the founders. This is a lovely idea, and such a fun spin on the 'building that hasn't been finished yet'. Well written Blue!! :)

This building sounds amazing. I would love to visit and watch it change.   I am going to look up Friedensreich Hundertwasser because I have never heard of him before! :)

Aww thank you ;) - Hundertwasser was a weird artist and wrote some manifestos with strange titles but he also committed to environmental protection.
