It was never intended by the four primordial gods that humans could use elemental magic like the rest of the Elaqitanians. Their continent of Idaka was not connected to the Aqi Talúsix, which is why no further element could develop here.
When the first Mirror Gates were erected on Idaka in the mid-3rd millennium BEC and people came into contact with the remaining inhabitants of Elaqitan, they discovered that magic existed. Their envy of the elemental powers grew and led to the development of Homo Elaqitanii - the elemental human.

The creation
Around 250 years passed before Aruru Sha could be officially named the first Homo Elaqitanii. During these years (forced) pregnancies, research and genetic selection were performed in secret laboratories.
There were two approaches to creating Homo Elaqitanii. The simpler method was thought to be through conception and pregnancy, which could hardly be avoided since the mirror gates introduced a mixing of cultures.
The scientific option was to study the Elaqitanians through experiments to extract their powers. Humans have always been accustomed to finding ways to develop new technologies, and they were largely superior to the rest of the Elaqitanians when it came to technological advancement.

When the first eyewitness reports of half-magical children and their mothers with rudimentary elemental powers emerged, many investors did not want to wait ages for research results that would ultimately lead to a dead end.
Of the Idangi mixing with Elementals
In general, pregnancies with magically gifted fetuses are not safe for expectant human mothers, even though most humanoid Elementals must first go through an initiation rite to fully utilize their element. During the embryonic stage, each element facilitates the production of hormones in the Elementals body - to which the human body can react with anaphylactic shock. Many women either died during pregnancy within the first three months or during childbirth. The mothers who survived childbirth, developed simple magical abilities in most cases, such as Elementals in their childhood.
However, pregnancies between humans and Elaqitans created out of love or voluntarily were no longer sufficient for further studies. Investors hired more and more slave traders to capture human females and scientists to further their research. How many women were taken to secret places or dungeons to give birth to one or more half-Elaqitans is not known. There are also no records (anymore) of how many half-magicals reached adulthood or were killed after birth.

Naturally, after scientists discovered that women who suffered abortions developed higher indicators of magical abilities than those who survived childbirth, there were further experiments with women exposed to different elements in this way. However, since the first killing in the womb and subsequent stillbirth causes pain 50 times greater than during a normal birth, many women died in terrible agony during such subsequent births. Very few women survived giving birth to a stillborn infant and one or two additional live births.
In contrast to pregnancies between human women and Elementals, it was easier for men to father children with elemental mothers because the elemental hormones were already present in the woman's body to survive a pregnancy without complications. Of course, some donors saw it as their job to produce as many half-magicals as possible in order to at least provide for future generations. Many children were separated from their mothers after birth and housed and raised in so-called elementary homes.
Around 3,375 BEC, the "League of the Golden Grain" was founded, which monitored the half-Elaqitans in the homes and regulated births between half-magicals and humans for later generations. The organization was financed by rich Idacans, who themselves contributed to the genepool or later married their sons and daughters to half-magicals.
Exchange of gene sequences
About 100 years after the first "breeding programs" of the humanoid species, scientists realized that their assumptions about the inheritance of elemental powers did not work in the same way and that all offspring only developed full powers in very rare cases or not at all like pure elementals. Therefore, most scientists abandoned “natural” genetic breeding and increasingly focused on studying the genes of individual elementals. The recordings from the experiments made in the early days as well as the discovery of the Anunna helix 3,262 BEC by Elish Madara helped them here.
After another 50 years of intensive research, genes from Âdocôdix were successfully transferred into the Anunna helix for the first time, which carried the information for earth magic, and inserted into the cell nucleus of a human egg cell. The first child born with earth magic genes died in infancy from Idacian Mist Fever. Later children barely reached adulthood to fully develop their powers.
It wasn't until 3,200 BEC that children born this way were able to use their powers for the first time. In order not to endanger the further development of the new elementary human being, these children were strictly guarded by the "League of the Golden Grain" and forced to produce offspring among themselves. The first child from such a union was Aruru Sha, who was declared the first official Homo Elaqitanii when she was around 17 years old in 3,178 BEC.

Differences from ordinary people

Since the scientists "cut out" the sequences from the genes of the elementary only responsible for magic and "glued" with human genes, Homo Elaqitanii are hardly distinguishable from normal people, because unlike hybrids, they have no striking physical features such as pointed ears, small, stubborn wings or scaly skin.
The most obvious external difference lies in the eye color of their iris, which would only have different brown tones without magical skills. However, according to the initial applications of magic, all Homo Elaqitanii develop a radiant eye color that reveals which element they dominate. In addition, there are some appearances during individual development phases that disappear again after full magic development or are only visible during pregnancy or death.
Pregnancy & birth
During pregnancy, the fetus is connected to an additional thin, magical umbilical cord, which winds around the normal umbilical cord and resembles a light -flooded thread. This thread is not cut off like the normal umbilical cord above the navel of the infant, but carefully handled from the umbilical cord by the midwife and separated where it "sees the light of the world". In contrast to the normal navel, which drops after a few days, the thread withdraws into the child's abdominal cavity over the belly button and leaves a small circle around the belly button.
Growth & Pupers
During childhood up to the onset of pupers, Homo Elaqitanii, in contrast to normal children, are more aroused, interested, impulsive and agile. Many Homo Elaqitanii are characterized by high talents that can affect all possible areas such as language, mathematical understanding, logic or empathy.
With the onset of pupils, Homo Elaqitanii leads to slight physical abnormalities that later disappear again. In people who dominate the element of water, scales on which water drops form, which gives the patterns a shimmering effect on some areas of the skin. In the case of earth magic, the skin becomes porous in some places and resembles dry streaked desert floor. Fire magic causes glowing fingertips and air magic often leads to disassembled, charged or very curly hair.
Old age & death
Unlike normal humans, Homo Elaqitanii have an average life expectancy of 60 to 70 years, which is about ten to 15 years less. For many people, the color of their eyes slowly begins to turn brown again after the age of 60 and the lenses partially become cloudy, leading to poor eyesight. At the same time, most Homo Elaqitanii lose the memory of performing magic, which doctors call magic dementia.
Just as the life of Homo Elaqitanii began with a glowing umbilical cord, so does it end too. As they die, the round mark around the navel begins to shimmer. Researchers suspect that this is how the essential magical soul detaches itself from the body and can leave the body after its death. For a brief moment it is visible to all over the face of the deceased, until the shimmering smoke dissipates, leaving a dead person behind.
Magical Abilities
There are researchers who claim that the light from the light-filled thread that wraps around the hub cord emits different wavelengths that would indicate which element could later develop. This has not yet been really confirmed and as a rule the magical abilities of the parents are passed on to the children. Things get particularly interesting when parents have different magical abilities. Researchers found that a child manifests primarily the element that would dominate the other element.

The child of an earth mage with a fire mage would in most cases have more pronounced earth powers. This child would also have access to fire magic abilities that are related to geokinetics. However, this would require years and significantly more practice than a trained Firewalker Layini.
While all Elementals on the four continents must undergo an initiation rite in order to fully utilize their powers, this is not the case for Homo Elaqitanii. From the age of five, they learn various body movements to bring their body and magic into balance. Only when they know these movements by heart and they flow together fluently many children begin to fall into a particularly deep dream phase during sleep in which they can safely try out and practice their skills. Now, during the day, the first flicker of the bright colored iris can be seen, which slowly begins to change.
With the pupers and the first side effects, the adolescents learn additional sayings to channel magic. However, they also need a lot of practice to develop their strength and to be able to deal with it. The "magical physical teaching" is complete when the side effects have disappeared and the eye color no longer changes.
Rise to Power
Already during the stage of birth regulation between elementals and humans, the "League of the Golden Grain" had a decisive influence on the first phase of the rise of the Homo Elaqitanii. Since the League initially consisted only of non-magicals who did not know how magic was cast and could not do more than study it, they needed support from elementals from the four continents. It is true that mixed races were no longer conceived. Nevertheless, through the Mirror Gates there were still active connections to the continents. Elementals continued to be held captive by the League in order to pass on their experience with elemental powers to the first children capable of magic. It took almost fifty years for these children to be able to use the skills they had learned. However, it cannot be assumed that the first of their kind already knew the full potential of their magic.
Although Aururu Sha 3,178 BEC was declared the first elemental human in League circles, the League protected the secrets at all costs. Many physical processes that contributed to the emergence of Homo Elaqitanii had not yet been deciphered and research continued. In the beginning, the League continued to rely on the help of captured elementals so that the magical powers were not used uncontrollably. It can be assumed that there were countless accidents and injuries. However, since the League lost its power after the great flood and the descendants of the surviving Homo Elaqitanii rose to become god-kings, such records can no longer be found today.

In addition, the League had to prevent humans from undoing the achievements and killing the first elemental humans. After declaring the first Homo Elaqitanii, the League founded the community of Thu-Sekhu in ancient Cana, where the first elemental humans grew up, lived, and reproduced among themselves. The League retained full control and, much like a cult, the elemental humans were raised and monitored in strict secrecy. They became full members of the League and after the last non-magical died, they had filled all positions in the League and the Golden Grain had finally risen.
The community grew rapidly and after about 50 years the League sent the first of their kind to mingle with the local non-magicals. Because of their highly gifted abilities and physical inconspicuousness, apart from their eyes, they were able to infiltrate people and gradually expand their power. In 3,045 BEC there was a League coup in Kanis against the king of ancient Cana. The king was deposed and he and all members of the royal family were killed. The common people were powerless and the way was clear for the Homo Elaqitanii to conquer the entire country.
Even if the non-magicals during the Mirror Battles rebelled against the royal family of Ituri and tried to wipe out the Homo Elaqitanii with the Mirror chain reaction that was later triggered, they never succeeded. In the following thousands of years after the flood, the elemental humans continued to be careful to reproduce only among their own kind so as not to weaken their magical abilities. Some of them were later not limited to the practice of just one element, further accelerating their rise to Idaka's elite.
Well, that was slightly horrifying but also really interesting. Those poor human women - and the poor elemental women who got their babies taken away. I'm kind of glad this all happened a long time ago. Great article - looking forward to seeing it updated.
