Âdocôdix - Cultural connections

History of ancestry

Starting from the direct descendants of the Âtogôtaigs of Prigg-Thâgi (1), the later Meadow goblins moved to the southern areas of Brictaelgis (2) in the mid-8th millennium BEC. They founded the first major country Âtogôrsa (today Âdocôris). There were in the following several emigrations to more distant areas over two millennia.   First, the later Forest goblins (3) split off from the Meadow goblins, who moved to the north and founded Dan Wudir (today Taen Wôtris). The later Night goblins (3) migrated to the west and founded Wadriw (today Wâdrivi). The Stone goblins in the east (4) developed from descendants of the Meadow and Forest goblins who crossed the rivers south and north of the Drûddâci - Greenlings and founded Rags Ewar (today Râx Evâri) there. The Frost Goblins (5) in the far north are descended from the Forest Goblins.   The five ethnic groups that have developed over the millennia share some similarities due to their ancestry.

Commonalities

Language

All Âdocôdix can speak Drælgit , which evolved from the proto-language Ddral. However, there are sometimes very different dialects such as Taenwa, Raxe, Ado, Tug or Wadri, which can lead to communication problems when travelers visit more remote areas.

Affiliation & naming

Depending on their ethnic group, Âdocôdix live in tribes of different sizes, which are further divided into clans such as the Grashupper, Hoh, Northlight or Moosling. A clan consists of around 200 to 300 members.   After the Initiation rite of the Âdocôdix, the young goblins receive a clan tattoo, which is expanded or supplemented with additional tattoos in the following years. For this purpose, ink is used, which the goblins get from the green shells of walnuts or the thick kernels of Vôcas.

Within a clan, the name is made up of the first name and usually a characteristic. The first name is given at birth. The attibute name is added after initiation at the latest. However, this trait name can change over the course of life, depending on better differentiation within the clan or outstanding achievements. When interacting with other clans, tribes or ethnic groups, the clan and tribe names are also added.

Social order

Brictaelgis is divided into four countries. Despite the tribal and clan culture, since the 5th century AEC, small kingdoms and duchies have developed that recognize Âdocôris as the protector of all goblin tribes.   Disputes within a clan are resolved in the ritual of clan peace. Major decisions that affect the entire tribe are made on Things. Initially the clan chiefs were elected on the Things. More recently, the titles during a thing are usually only transferred to the heir, without there being any inheritance law.

Goblin society is based on mutual trust and equality between the sexes. Women are highly respected. They have been appointed as regents since the first Âtogôtaigs and still have high advisory functions today. However, in most cases, at the top of a tribe is a male clan chief who, in modern times, rules the empire or duchy.   The clan is led by the boss and his family with respect for the rest of the clan members. Then follow druids, shamans and warriors. At the end there are the remaining members consisting of farmers, craftsmen and children. Because of their social mindset, goblins detest slavery.   Within the clan, everyone cares about each other's well-being. Older goblins pass on many traditions to the younger ones. Goblins are very familial and at many festivals the whole clan gathers together and celebrates together.

Believe

Basically, the belief in The brictaelgican Pantheon and the primal power of mother nature is the most widespread and the main religion.   All Âdocôdix celebrate the seven main festivals of the Brictaelgican Luni changing year calendar. There are a few regional differences. In addition, depending on the country, there are other holidays or festivals such as the meadow goblins' mushroom festival or the forest goblins' light festival.   Druids, who are organized into the Order of Druids, are responsible for carrying out rituals. Each clan has at least one male and one female druid who have different tasks.   Since the 7th century AEC, there have also been some clans that, in addition to believing in the Pantheon, practice Elaqism, the religion of the Holy Temple of Aqila.

Ooo, mushroom festival.   I love the detail that many of the place names have changed over time. Such a nice drop of realism.

Thank you very much, I hope it's somewhat believable, because it's not always easy for me to imagine changes in an invented language over time.

This is really cool. I like the tattoos, especially. Those are very detailed.

I love seeing goblins in a new light with a deeper connection to nature, and the way you describe their societal make up is super cool. I especially like the idea of a trait name changing over time! Like, do they keep adding more names to encompass the whole person, or does the trait name represent their primary characteristic?

Thank you so much for enjoying my reinterpretation of the goblins. Basically, I would base the attribute name on the main feature, although it might also be an interesting idea if the feature names were added to over time. Descendants of royal families sometimes have up to ten first names. So why not - it could be funny if a lot of names are mentioned in one scene. I have to think about it.
