Elvish
The elven language is a flurry of soft and quickly pronounced syllables that almost seem to weave together like one seamless sound. Someone hearing it for the first time would be forgiven for thinking that elves never take breaths between words. But of course they do, it's simply that the language is spoken out of the mouth while simultaneously breathing in through the nostrils. It is one of the harder languages to learn later in life.
Geographical Distribution
The language comes from sylvan, the language of fey. Elvish comes from the combining of sylvan symbols and sounds with the sentence structure of the common script created by the ancient jotun. Primarily spoken by elves and satyrs, it has been picked up by some halflings as well as firbolgs native to the mountains around the red forest. Though more difficult for some other races, the ability to speak elvish requires excellent breath control and circulatory respiration, meaning the ability to speak out of ones mouth while simultaneously breathing in through the nose. Those who attempt to speak elvish between breaths may communicate incomplete thoughts or be cut off because the other person thinks you're finished speaking. This makes communication between elves and other races a tense and often frustrating experience, leaving both parties confused or even insulted.
