Taunport
A Xoriat Pet Project
The youngest city in Dystelia, Taunport is very much still developing a cultural identity. The town was built around two primary concepts: Valaskir School of Magical Arts, the Andrells' answer to the prestige of Adamantus and Adaventus Academy, and its advanced piers and docks. Cargo generally moves the fastest through Taunport due to massive investments into the dock infrastructure, and it serves as the heart of Mainland Dystelia's central mailing system. The service is still in its infancy, but becomes more reliable with each passing day. The people of Taunport are overwhelmingly lower-middle class, and most never see a fraction of the wealth the city brings in for the Xoriats. If you aren't a merchant or personal servant to one, your work is long, dredging days filing Dystelia's mail by hand, or working the docks. Unlike most cities that attempt to maintain an independent government despite the Xoriats (to varying degrees of success), Taunport makes very few pretenses. The only government the town keeps is a City Council made up of three elected representatives and three appointed merchants; this board is entirely overseen by Magnus Escherfeld and Sylvestor Andrell, who were both named "Baron" of the city, and appointments to the council are made by them as well.
Valaskir has done immense promotional activity for itself, and yet, it boasts an almost laughably smaller student body than either Adamantus or Adaventus. It doesn't focus on any particular school of magic (most assume due to lack of skilled resources), but is able to offer advanced students and graduates more fiscal support than the others, and even guaranteed job placements.
