Kuhri

The Foresaken City

Kuhri has perhaps suffered the most under the crushing hand of Dystelia's plutocracy. When the Steelwind Mountains south of Kuhri were revealed to be filled to the brim with coal, rare materials, and even access to the mysteries of the underdark, capitalists took interest as capitalists do. Kuhri, lacking both the threatening terrain of Oxthen Gorge and the Barrowdowns' deep independent spirit, quickly crumbled under the pressure. Today, the city is a mere shadow of others in the Westwind region; most roads are known to be the death of the average horse and carriage, air and water conditions outside the wealthiest areas are abysmal, and the factory workers and miners that make up over 70% of Kuhri's population live in near-squalor and struggle to keep food on the table. The current mayor of Kuhri, Aberand Dolket, is known to be in the pocket of Sylvestor Andrell, the man responsible for colonizing massive swaths of the mainland to source materials, and challenges to his authority have earned the proletariat of this town the ire of Andrell himself more times than once. There is coal dust and fuel spilled across the ground of Kuhri, awaiting only a match before it catches fire.   The Kuhri mines are broken into three zones: the East Ward, the West Ward, and the South Ward. The three wards connect at a large open-concept underground concourse referred to as "the Beam", entered into at the Frontier Gate at the south side of the city. There exist a number of other entrances into the Steelwind Mountains, but only the Frontier Gate has been developed for easy entry. Only the Dust District, the poorly-maintained working-class ring that makes up the majority of the city, connects to any entrances to the mines.
