Asovine

The state of political discourse in Asovine is tense in this age. For the last several hundred years, the city has been ruled by The Chamber of Deliberant Houses (also referred to as the Chamber of Houses Deliberant, or just the Chamber of Deliberants), a council of noblemen and aristocrats from the noble houses of the mainland Ember Forest region. The council works like so:

• Every noble House has a storied expertise or domain, called their Vindication.

• Every noble House appoints three Councilors to the Chamber on behalf of the family.

• Every Councilor's vote is worth 1 vote, unless the topic of debate falls under a particular House's Vindication. Having a related Vindication grants a Councilor a vote worth 2 votes.

• The options (at least two, but not more than five) compete in a tournament style with the lowest-voted option being eliminated until only two options remain (the "final"). If the final ends in a tie, the Councilors of the House with the related Vindication act as tiebreaker.

Outside of the Chamber, each House's Vindication is also their work. Minor, urgent, or uncontroversial decisions are made daily by the leadership (typically either a Patriarch or Matriarch) of the Vindicated House. Each House is held responsible for the continued operation of whatever their expertise is, and failure to do so is punishable by disownment, exile, or even House Name Recission (a last resort for a failing House). Recission hasn't occurred for centuries now, but the possibility keeps the Houses and its members mostly in-line.
