The Myrkvidr
The Myrkvidr is the largest forest in all of Dwaistar, and the most plentiful of all. The sprawling dark woods are quite beneficial to all civilizations that surround it's borders. However, not all who travel in it are able to return. Many dangerous beasts roam this forest, and most do not take kindly to strangers.
Myrkvidr is the name of the forest in High Dwarvish. Due to Ginnungagap’s close proximity and being the oldest city near it, this is the widely accepted name. In Elvish, is is called Cemwinthir. In common the name roughly translates to the Shadowed Wood.

Geography
The forest itself is ancient and strong. Nary an open field you will find, for the trees grow to be gigantic and immovable. Over time, villages and kingdoms alike would take from the woods to build homes and other necessities. However, no matter how much is taken, the trees grow back in astonishingly short time. Some attribute this to the age of the forest and it's adaptability, others claim it is protected by and order of Druids whom worship a god of nature. But none truly know what causes the Myrkvidr to be so mighty.
Caves and large stone formations are not an uncommon sight in the forest. Though there are no cliffs mapped, so taking a hard fall is usually not an issue. Be wary though, as not many trails are traveled often. For the forest will consume a footpath if it is not tended to. The best way through the forest is to either travel by the Skull River or the Goldbreaker Road that leads from Ginnungagap to Voulteria.
History
Judging by appearance alone, it is easy to tell that the Myrkvidr is one of the oldest forests on the continent. The closer to the heart of the forest you go, the taller the trees become. So large they block out the sun. So large a path cannot be made. And so large, many know it would be unwise to travel too deeply.
In current times, civilizations have begun logging the outskirts of the forest. By superstition or intelligence, none will take too much from these woods. A common fear is to be cursed by malevolent forest dwellers, or to be kidnapped to pay some sort of debt to the Myrkvidr.
Many years ago there was an expedition by an adventuring party, The Magnificent Five, to investigate what was causing the woods to be so powerful for so long. Unfortunately, only one made it out of the Myrkvidr alive. The other's were never found and the woman who did survive, Vara Khurin, was driven mad. She never had the heart to say what led to the demise of her party, but in the midst of her ramblings one phrase was distinguished. "Their flesh became bark, bark and vine, only their eyes..."
