The Broken Rib
The Broken Rib are an organization of criminals who have recently cropped up in the inner city territory of Baranek. They operate quietly in the underground of the city, only making their presence known when needed (or of they're paid enough). These ne'er do wells specialize in smuggling and thievery, and occasionally have been known to carry out assassinations. Because of the lack of quality policing by the guards in Baranek the Broken Rib have become a de facto ruling force in terms of laws. Though the guards are not incompetent, they certainly feel the clasp the Broken Rib have on the city, they are just too clever and organized to catch. One or two members may be brought in but any individual would rather die than betray their crime syndicate. All members are fiercely loyal to the end of their days, and those who are not don't stay... alive for very long.
Structure
As far as public knowledge goes, the leader and founder of the Broken Rib was a man by the name Utaz Lostreach. He controlled everything the group did to the finest detail.
Under him there were trusted individuals who acted as commanders without title. Only the best and most aggressive were trusted enough to be given so much power.
And finally the common member, also known as "ribs". They are the grunts for lack of a better term. They are common thieves and delinquents turned merciless killers. Each member operates on reputation and respect. A simple rule, some say. If you don't show respect, you won't get any. And with a bad reputation, you'll get killed.
History
Utaz formed the organization in the 84th year of the Fourth Era. The Broken Rib essentially owned Baranek for a number of months.
Disbandment
Utaz was killed by a group of adventurers which left the Broken Rib in a massive power vacuum. During this time, the remaining members were arrested or executed by a battalion of Crownsguard sent to Baranek from Acreheight. Some locals claim there is still a presence in Baranek, however there is on evidence of this. If there were one, it would be a far cry from it’s former influence.
