Kirdeer

Kirdeer is a seaside city built on the Kirdeer peninsula atop and between a natural arch known as the Basilisk's Maw. This town has become known as a very isolationist society in recent times. The city is built in two major sections, The upper city known as the Galgen District, and the lower city known as the Saltcave Ports. Though the city is built in two parts there is little difference in class between them, and travel both upward and downward is common.   The smell of salt always lingers in this area. The buildings are old and worn down by the near constant downpour of rain. The old cathedrals tower above the tired docks. Still, the hearty people of Kirdeer linger and are loyal to their home.

Defences

Kirdeer has a small navy force called the Tidebearers that circle the peninsula in case of an attack from Drufwidde.   The guards that roam the streets are known at the Mist Knights. Despite the name, few are actually knights. They often guard the houses of nobility or holy sites. They have a reputation of being easily bribed.

Districts

The Galgen District - The Galgen District is named after the prophet of Umberlee, Branrik Galgen, who helped found the city during its inception. This is the portion of Kirdeer built atop the Basilisk's maw. Here there many cathedrals and lighthouses reaching into the sky. From a distance, one may mistake this little seaside city for a dwarven fortress. The ornate architecture reveals its age by how worn down the stone is from years of rain assailing it.   The Saltcave Ports - The Saltcave Ports are built underneath the arch, being provided with a natural ceiling to sheild against the rian. This scetion of the city is layered, meaning that there are many homes and businesses built on top of one another. There are many docks for trading vessels and other ships that pass through the area in this section of the city. One major attractor for living here is being able to witness the beauty of the Dangling Lanterns at night.

Points of interest

Tergio's Hope Lighthouse - Tergio's Hope is the largest and most recognizable lighthouse around Kirdeer. It is built atop a small islet to the Northwest of Kirdeer. It has led many ships to safety in storms and acts as a beacon for the entire city. Legend goes that is earned its name by leading the Forgotten Soldier, Tergio Tipien back home after the war in Drufwidde. The time of it's construction is actually somewhat obscured or has been lost to time, so the lighthouse's true age is currently unknown.   Gallow Skerry - This is a place where criminals are punished for their crimes, as well as being one of the more grim places to visit in Kirdeer. On the Eastern side of town there is a small rock that criminals are chained to or hung and left to be torn asunder by the ocean. This gallow is automatically cleaned as the waterlogged corpses are carried out to sea, leaving room for more victims. This is often used as an intimidation tactic to keep crime low.   Smokehearth Inn - The Smokehearth is one of the most popular inns in the city. It's a good place to get dry shelter and a warm meal.

Geography

The land leading up to Kirdeer is lightly wooded and cold. However, it has the makings of a comfortable place to call home. Being built into the land, Kirdeer itself is mostly surrounded by sand and stone.
