Maro Scurlock
Lord Scurlock is the head of the Scurlock family, an old aristocratic house descended from one of the original mercenary officers that served under Mruk Katoor the First. Like the rest of the officers, Scurlock's ancestor was granted a healthy parcel of land and wealth stolen from the indigenous population. The Scurlock family became the most powerful of these new noble houses, through intrigue -- both political and economic. Lord Maro Scurlock wasn't content to sit back and watch his wealth grow. Over his lifetime, he built a network of informants, underworld connections, and paid agents that gave him a reputation as Redrock's spymaster.
House Scurlock has fallen on hard times, however. Lord Scurlock backed Mruk Katoor the Second during the Dornish Civil War, providing significant financial support in addition to services rendered. While the Republicans pardoned most noble families that supported Katoor, Maro Scurlock was scorned by many of the houses, and many of his assets were lost or seized during the war. To top it off, Scurlock and his wife have no heirs, and with Lord Scurlock cutting his public appearances in the last several years, it seems likely that House Scurlock will fade away soon.
