The Liberation of the Dragonborn

Through much struggle, the Dragonborn were able to free themselves from their enslavement.
  Dragons at one point established so-called Dragon cults and enslaved the Dragonborn through trickery and magic binding, but with the chaos of the Khadisar empire's fall, the Dragonborn were able to wrest control of their own destinies from the Dragon's claws by banding together and slaying the first Archdragon.

They distanced themselves from their original oppressors and founded a nation in Northern Karrah, which, to this day is still largely operated by the Dragonborn. Never again were they ever subjugated.
