  You channel unstable Rift energy through your weapon. As part of casting this spell, make a melee weapon attack against one creature within 5 feet of you. On a hit, the target takes the attack’s normal damage and becomes wreathed in volatile Rift energy until the start of your next turn.
  If the target takes damage from a creature other than you before the start of your next turn, the Rift energy erupts and the target takes 1d8 force damage, then the effect ends.
  If the target hasn’t taken damage from another creature by the start of your next turn, the Rift energy lashes out. The nearest creature to the target within 30 feet of it must make a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC, taking 1d8 force damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success. If no other creature is in range, the energy dissipates harmlessly or in an Arcane Rift Anomaly at the GM's discretion.
  Cantrip Upgrade. The damage increases by 1d8 when you reach levels 5 (2d8), 11 (3d8), and 17 (4d8). Additionally, starting when you reach level 5 your melee weapon attack on a hit deals an extra 1d8 Force damage, which increases by 1d8 when you reach levels 11 (2d8) and 17 (3d8).
